WESSEX KNOCKOUT COMPETITION RULES
1. OPEN COMPETITION
(a) The competition will comprise of two parts, the Karl Taylor Shield and the Karl Taylor Plate.
(b) The competition shall be open to all teams who are registered to play in the Wessex Basketball League's Open Divisions. Additional cubs/ teams may be accepted into the competition at the Executive Committee's discretion.
(c) Teams losing in the first round, or any preliminary round, of the Karl Taylor Shield will play in the Karl Taylor Plate.
2. LADIES COMPETITION
(a) The competition will comprise of two parts, the Richard Bell Cup and the Richard Bell Plate.
(b) The competition shall be open to all women teams registered to play in the Wessex Women's Divisions. Additional cubs/ teams may be accepted into the competition at the Executive Committee's discretion.
(c) Teams losing in the first round, or any preliminary round, of the Richard Bell Cup will play in the Richard Bell Plate.
3. ALL COMPETITIONS
(a) The Cup fee is £40 per team entered. A completed Wessex League/ Cup Entry Form should be sent to Committee@wessexbasketball.co.uk by 31st July. Failure to submit entry forms by this date will make the team(s) liable to either a fine or exclusion from the Cup, at the discretion of the Executive Committee. A separate payment form downloadable from the Wessex web site should be emailed and payment made electronically or by Cheque to 'Wessex Basketball' by the 31 August.
(b) The Competitions Manager, in consultation with the Committee has the option of changing the structure of either the Open or Ladies competitions’ at their discretion depending on the number of entries into each Competition.
(c) The Cup fees will be reviewed annually by the Executive Committee.
(d) Clubs may enter more than one team in either Competition, but each team shall be regarded as being separate for the purposes of that Competition.
(e) Players shall only be eligible to play for the Club for which they are registered.
(f) To be eligible to play in a knockout final any player must have played in a minimum of four games for that club in any Wessex Competition, which must include at least one game in a knockout competition. To participate in a knock out competition players must be registered by the 30 November.
(g) For teams that only participate in knockout competitions, to be eligible for a knockout final any player must have played in a minimum of two games in a knockout competition.
(h) Once a team has listed a player on a score sheet in either competition, that player will be ineligible to play for another team in that competition.
(i) Any team conceding their match in the first or preliminary round of the Karl Taylor Shield or Richard Bell Cup will not be allowed to continue into the Karl Taylor Plate or Richard Bell Plate.
(j) Teams have an equal and joint responsibility to ensure that matches are played. All matches must be played by the specified date, unless the Competitions Manager grants an extension. In the event of matches being delayed, the Competitions Manager may disqualify teams from a competition if such delay is likely to prevent the competition being completed on time.
(k) The home team in each game is responsible for sending the score sheet to the Competitions Manager within 48 hours of the game having been played. All score sheets must be completed as per Wessex Basketball League Regulations.
(l)The team drawn first in each tie shall have the option of hosting the match. Should that team be unable or unwilling to play at home, the other team shall have the option. In the case of a dispute, the Competitions Manager shall decide.
(m) The date and venue for the finals will be the responsibility of the Competitions Manager. The Association will meet all costs associated with the finals, with the exception of team travel.
(n) All matches must be played in line with the current rules of Basketball England and the Wessex Basketball Constitution and League Regulations.
(o) Any contingency not covered by these rules should be referred to the Competitions Manager, who shall decide the appropriate course of action.
(p) All disciplinary matters shall be dealt with according to Wessex Area Disciplinary Procedure.
(q) The Wessex Table Officials Secretary will arrange the provision of Table Officials for all Wessex Finals. Teams that reach the Finals will be given the opportunity to provide a Table Official. All Table Officials will be paid a flat fee of £10.
